When should you start getting Botox?

Botox is one of the most popular non-invasive cosmetic procedures of all time. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, more than 9.5 million people in the U.S. received neuromodulator injections in 2023, which includes treatments such as Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport.

Botox helps with fine lines and wrinkles, including crow’s feet, 11-lines, and forehead wrinkles while being safe and effective for most people. It does this by relaxing your facial muscles and keeping your expressions from forming deeper wrinkle lines.

While the popularity of Botox is undeniable, many people wonder when they should begin Botox treatments. In this blog, we’ll demystify the best age to start getting Botox so you can have the results you’re looking for.

When is the best time to start Botox?

Because we all have different skin and unique situations, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution for starting injection treatments. The best time to start Botox isn’t a number – it’s when you start noticing dynamic lines in areas such as:

  • Around your eyes.
  • Between your eyebrows.
  • On your forehead.
  • Around your lips (smile lines).

It’s normal for fine lines to begin appearing in these areas by your mid to late 20s, with lines becoming more established in your 30s. Because Botox can keep fine lines from turning into deeper wrinkles, your 20s or 30s are a great time to start thinking about Botox. At this age, Botox can be used as a preventative measure rather than a correction for deeper lines.

With that being said, you can still get great results from Botox at an older age. In fact, most people who get Botox are between 40 and 54 years of age, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. However, it’s a misconception that you need to wait until your 40s to start with injection treatments.

What is preventative Botox?

Like other types of preventative measures, preventative Botox is intended to stop a problem before it can get worse. In the case of wrinkles, Botox can be used at the first sign of fine lines to keep the skin from developing deeper lines. When used as a form of preventative skincare, these treatments can keep lines from becoming a more permanent feature on your face as long as you begin early enough.

In many cases, getting Botox in your 20s or 30s involves getting a lower dosage compared to what you might get when receiving treatment at an older age. Because it’s usually a smaller dose, this is often called a baby Botox treatment.

Aside from using a smaller dosage, baby Botox treatments can also be used to target very specific areas with more subtle and natural-looking results. For example, you may benefit from crow’s feet Botox if you struggle most with lines forming around your eyes. The lower dose and targetability makes these treatments most effective for younger clients who don’t have deep lines and wrinkles yet.

Preventative vs. Traditional Botox

When most people think of Botox shots, what comes to mind is usually corrective Botox, which is when injections are used to reverse the look of deeper-set wrinkles. Preventative Botox, on the other hand, aims to keep lines from deepening and prevent early signs of aging. The treatment itself is largely the same, but the dosage, location of injections, and the final outcome will vary.

What to Expect from Preventative Botox Treatments

One reason cosmetic Botox is so popular is that you can get amazing results without surgery or a long recovery time. During your treatment, we will use a fine needle to target your specific areas of concern. To prevent any discomfort, you can request a topical anesthetic at the injection site as well. After treatment, most clients are ready to return to their normal activities the same day.

You’ll generally begin seeing results within 72 hours after treatment, with the full effect becoming visible within two weeks. Most clients have results that last for three to six months from the time of treatment. In most cases, clients get the best results by receiving regular treatments, but the length of time between appointments will vary depending on your situation.

Botox and other neuromodulator injections work great for stopping wrinkles before they have a chance to become deeper lines. For that reason, your late 20s to early 30s is a great time to start considering Botox. However, people don’t always start that early because there’s a misconception that you need to wait until after you have noticeable wrinkles to start treatment.

The best age to get Botox will ultimately depend on your skin, lifestyle, and other individual factors. At Baltic Beauty Centre, we can tailor a custom plan that’s unique to you and your situation. We would love to discuss your questions about Botox and help you start your preventative skincare journey.
